Pirelli released the CN72 in 1964, it was a significant improvement in tire technology for high-performance cars. The CN72 was engineered to allow 205 section tyres sustain continuous high speeds for the new supercars of that era. It received a V speed rating, certifying its ability to maintain speeds up to 149 mph for 1 hour without failure.
Featuring an innovative tread pattern and construction, the CN72 provided excellent grip and stability at high speeds, essential for the increasingly potent sports cars of its day. During the 1960s and early 1970s, the CN72 became the preferred tyre choice for flagship models from prestigious Italian car manufacturers Maserati and Ferrari, as well as being the first choice for some Jaguar models.
Pirelli reproduces the Cinturato CN72 today, maintaining the original design and specifications while using contemporary materials. Thanks to modern developments in rubber compositions, the modern CN72 offers enhanced performance and increased safety without sacrificing originality or performance.
Today's 205 VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72 actually qualifies for a W speed rating (168mph) but the large size description on the tyre sidewall remains a V for historical authenticity. In the smaller technical description you will see the tyre's true, W speed rating.

205 VR14 Innertubes
The 205 VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72 tyre is capable of being used without innertubes, however, many 1960s cars that use full-profile 205 VR14 tyres were equipped with wire wheels. All wire wheels must use inner tubes for proper and safe function. Many alloy or steel wheels from this era did not have the safety hump that designates a wheel as tubeless. To run this tyre without tubes the wheel must also be tubeless. The correct innertube for 205 VR14 tyres is the Michelin 14F.
